The Directorate of Sainik Welfare/Rajya Sainik Board (RSB) is the apex State-level organization responsible for the welfare, rehabilitation, resettlement, and employment of Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and their dependents. As a permanent department of the Government of Meghalaya, it serves as the nodal agency for implementing the welfare and resettlement policies and programmes of the Ministry of Defence and the State Government.
The Directorate maintains a comprehensive database of Ex-Servicemen, Military Nursing Service (MNS) personnel, widows, dependents, World War II veteran, and World War II widows in the State. It facilitates employment, resettlement, self-employment, and implements welfare schemes of the Kendriya Sainik Board, Directorate General Resettlement (DGR), and the State Government. The Directorate also disseminates information on Central and State Government concessions, Armed Forces welfare schemes, family pension and retirement benefits, financial assistance, Army Central Welfare Fund (ACWF) grants, and Armed Forces Flag Day activities. In addition, it promotes awareness on disaster management, encourages youth to join the Armed Forces through career counselling, and coordinates welfare initiatives through the network of Zila Sainik Boards (ZSBs), Service Headquarters, Welfare Organisers, and registered Ex-Servicemen Associations across the State.
