The Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Shillong is located at Lachumiere, Near Raj Bhawan, Shillong – 793001. Incepted on 03 Sep 1945 under the administration of the erstwhile Unified State of Assam, the office was catering to the needs of the ex-servicemen community of the United Khasi and Jaintia Hills. Thereafter, after attaining statehood, ex-servicemen and dependant of the entire state of Meghalaya was covered under the purview of the office until the inauguration of Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Tura on 10 June 2019. Presently, the office is the nodal agency for the welfare of ex-servicemen in 7 (seven) districts of the state viz. East Khasi Hills. West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills and Eastern West Khasi Hills, Mairang.
