Background

1. Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Tura is located in Tura, West Garo Hills,  Meghalaya, inside the office premises of Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills District, Tura. Shri Conrad K Sangma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, who is also the President Rajya Sainik Board, Meghalaya gave Govt. sanction for establishing the Office of Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Tura and personally inaugurated the office on 10 June 2019.

2. Prior to establishment of the Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Tura the documentation and welfare matters of ESM/widows and dependents of Garo Hills Region were being looked after by the Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Shillong. Since the distance involved to reach ZSWO, Shillong was unmanageable and physical approach by each individual was difficult and uneconomical, one staff (Welfare Organiser) was positioned in the Office Complex of Deputy Commissioner, Tura where the ESM/widows and dependents could submit required documents, applications etc who in turn would submit the same to Zila Sainik Welfare Office, Shillong for processing. The process was quite cumbersome and time consuming.
